Stranded at the airport
There is nothing worse than getting to an airport only to find that your flight has been cancelled, this would normally mean a massive wait for the next available place or giving up, this is ok when you are at your home airport, but when you are away you have no choice at all.
Yet in the states there is a little known way to get yourself on the next seat out of there, this means that if your flight is cancelled you are entitled to the next available seat and not just with the airline that you have booked your flight with.
This is rule 240, which when you mention this to the check in, they will apparently drop everything and get you a seat in the next flight out of there, whether it is with their airline or another, it makes no difference. It is the airlines responsibility to get you on a plane, any plane. Pity they didn’t have this in Europe.
