People power save porch

A £12.7 million leisure development in Blackburn, ran into trouble with the local people over a 1933 grand porch way at the Darwen Leisure Centre, in Green Street.

The plans ran into trouble when it was announced that the either porch could be saved or £150,000 could spend on leisure centre equipment, but this just made things worse for the builders and the council who are paying form the development.

It appears that an agreement has been made, all be it loosely. The portico will remain intact but will be moved to form an entrance from pedestrians at the side of the leisure centre. But the rest of the original façade will not survive as it is well beyond repair.

A public meeting will be held to discuss the plans, where the new updated versions will be presented.
