Riot police called for smoker

Watching the cricket down the local pub was a nice way to spend the afternoon for John Vaughan, but to his amazement just as the cricket began to hot up, the TV was all of a sudden turned over to the England football match, with no warning.

Naturally being a smoker he needed a cigarette which he refused to put out when asked to by the staff, who had no chance but the press the pubs “Panic Button” located beneath the bar, moments later six riot police officers stormed the pub dressed in the full protective clothing. They escorted the smoker outside where there were two more officers.

Is this the way to deal with somebody who smokes or is this just overkill, can the police justify sending out eight riot officers just because somebody was smoking?
