UK could go back to watermills

One of the most endearing things about the English countryside is the old watermills, although these are found in other countries but not to the extents as they are found here and it seems that this source power could be returning to the UK.

It seems that after years of neglect and in many cases redevelopment the water mill owners could soon be installing powerful turbines, which can use the fast flowing rivers to generate much needed power.

If this could be done on a commercial basis, then this would definitely be green power source, which could last for years with only the basic maintenance needed to keep the entire system going.

The government estimates that if these mill and weirs are utilised then they could provide around three per cent of the power requirements for the entire UK.
