The £20 wind turbine

A student from Greenwich studying at the University of Portsmouth has designed and built a fully working wind turbine made completely from recycled materials.

The idea is that this type of equipment could be used in third world countries where power and cash are short. However, there is a ready made market for affordable wind power equipment throughout the entire world, making this turbine if it could be made viable, very interesting indeed.

Max Robson aged twenty two, spent hours collecting the materials from skips and rubbish tips, these parts include old bike parts, bits of old cars and so on.

The plan is so simple that the turbine can be build in a few hours, but once up and running could produce 11.3 watts, which can provide lighting and a radio.

This turbine cost only £20 to build, but the equivalent wind turbine would be priced at around £2,000.
