Plants could produce 30% of fuel
There is real belief that one-day plants will be able to replace around thirty per cent of the fuel used for motoring, this would normally sound brilliant but there are questions thrown up about the process that is needed to get to this stage.
In the US, planting of new crops is due to start next spring. Which raises the questions as to what they will be not planting in order to grown this high energy crop which can go on to producing that precious fuel to keep the countries vehicles moving.
The argument at the moment is food v fuel, this is where crops like corn can be made into bio fuels but with the loss of food, this is being blamed for the huge prices in food that we are seeing these days.
However, companies like Ceres, are growing high-energy crops, which they say solves the problem. Nevertheless, does it, they are not growing food at all and so the food crisis will get worse and prices will increase.
