Games sales soar

As the latest game to hit the shelves is released, in a report released today by the Entertainment and Leisure Software Publishers Association (ELSPA) and compiled by Chart-Track, it has been found that UK gamers are far from feeling the credit crunch as they spent a massive £418.4 million in the first quarter of the year.

In the first quarter it was games like Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games which topped the list for the quarter of the year, but clearly the second quarter is going to be dominated by Grand Theft Auto IV which was released early this morning in some stores.

As for the formats, the Wii and DS topped the sales list, while the PC came in third and coming in at lonely forth place was the Microsoft Xbox 360. The UK currently employs around 25,000 in the games industry and brings in a massive £2 billion into the economy.
