Man dies using fake seatbelt

A man from New Zealand who apparently did not like to wear his seat belt has been killed in a serious car accident. Ivan Segedin’s car was involved in a head on collision with another vehicle he was thrown forward and hit the steering wheel of the car, his injuries were so severe that he died.

Upon examination the car was found to have a fake seat belt fitted at the drivers seat, this was a simple piece of fabric that had been tied at the same place where the seat belt would be pulled from, but instead of the putting the seat belt on he would drape this piece of material over his shoulder to look like he was wearing a seat belt.

He had been fined 32 times for refusing to wear a seat belt since February 2003, which is why he had created his own imitation seat belt, but the experts did say that if he had been wearing his seat built then more than likely he would had survived.
